Michelle Obama set to release her ‘inspiring’ first memoir

Michelle Obama will release her first memoir, Becoming' in November

She’s the former first lady of the United States and a woman who inspired a generation, and now Michelle Obama is set to release her very first memoir.

The 54-year-old took to Twitter on Sunday to reveal her book Becoming will hit shelves later this year. “Writing BECOMING has been a deeply personal experience,” she told her 10.2 million followers. “I talk about my roots and how a girl from the South Side found her voice. I hope my journey inspires readers to find the courage to become whoever they aspire to be. I can’t wait to share my story.”

Details about the new book are still scarce, but Obama has launched a website giving fans a taste of what to expect. “In a life filled with meaning and accomplishment, Michelle Obama has emerged as one of the most iconic and compelling women of our era,” it reads.

“In her memoir, a work of deep reflection and mesmerising storytelling, Michelle Obama invites readers into her world, chronicling the experiences that have shaped her – from her childhood on the South Side of Chicago to her years as an executive balancing the demands of motherhood and work, to her time spent at the world’s most famous address.

“With unerring honesty and lively wit, she describes her triumphs and her disappointments, both public and private, telling her full story as she has lived it – in her own words and on her own terms.”

While it will be her first memoir, it isn’t the first book the mother-of-two has released. Fans of beloved former lawyer will recall she released a gardening guide, American Grown: The Story of the White House Kitchen Garden and Gardens Across America, which became a hit after its 2012 release.

Obama is expected to go on a lengthy tour to promote her book, although fans still have a while to wait. It won’t hit shelves until November 13. Talk show host Ellen DeGeneres, who is a close friend of the Obamas, joked about her anticipation at reading the memoir.

“Excited to see how many chapters are about me,” she quipped on Twitter. Michelle appeared on an episode of The Ellen DeGeneres Show earlier this month where she gave an update on what she’s been up to since leaving the White House.

“We’re doing great. The girls are good, Barack is working. We’ve got projects going, so we’re staying busy,” she explained.

Michelle isn’t the only Obama with a book in the works. The former president is expected to release his own memoir about his time in office in the coming months.
