Fans go into meltdown over Elton John’s new project

Elton John has signed up to co-write a musical adaptation of The Devil Wears Prada, the hit movie that starred Meryl Streep as a formidable fashion magazine editor.

Reports say that the Grammy-winning singer and songwriter will co-write a stage version of the 2006 comedy with writer Paul Rudnick.

Variety reports that the cast hasn’t yet been chosen or a date set for the curtain to go up on the musical. John’s husband David Furnish is the CEO of one of the production companies involved in the planned musical, Variety says.

The Devil Wears Prada was based on Lauren Weisberger’s 2003 book of the same name that was said to have been inspired by Weisberger’s stint as an assistant to Vogue editor Anna Wintour.

Streep was lauded for her performance as Miranda Priestly, the fictional fashion editor who makes the life of main character Andy Sachs, played by Anne Hathaway, hell with her outrageous demands. The film was a big hit, taking in almost $330 million at the global box office, after being made at a cost of $35 million.

It is also credited as the movie that introduced Streep to the younger generation and they quickly branded her a icon of their own. No wonder!

Streep broke her own Oscars record last week, earning her 20th nomination for the prestigious award.

No doubt Elton will do her role and the entire Devil Wears Prada movie proud when they show finally takes to the stage.
