Mandy Harvey gave a memorable performance on America’s Got Talent during the auditions.

Her beautiful performance was all the more remarkable because she is deaf.

She even faced the stage with an interpreter so she could talk with the judges during her performance.

The singer said she lost her hearing when she was 18 years old due to a connective tissue disorder; after getting sick and her nerves deteriorated.

She had been singing since the age of 4, and stopped when she lost her hearing. She was able to learn again through the use of muscle memory.

She wrote her own song called Try, about not giving up, and performed without shoes so she could hear the tempo through the floor.

“After I lost my hearing I just gave up, but I want to do more with my life than just give up,” she said.

Her performance brought the audience to tears and then she had a standing ovation, from all the judges and the audience.

But it did more than that.

Judge Simon Cowell said she didn’t need a translator for this, as he hit the golden buzzer.  The golden buzzer was introduced in season nine of the show and automatically sends the act to the live shows. Each judge may press it only once during the season.

Simon went on to congratulate her for her tone, her voice and said her song was beautiful. “I never think I am going to be surprised or amazed by people, and then you turn up,” Simon Cowell said.
