Elton John’s incredible career to be honoured in star-filled concert

Elton John's amazing career will be celebrated.

He’s a legend in the music industry with a stream of awards and titles to his name.

And now Sir Elton John will be honoured in a star-studded concert following the next Grammy Awards.

Big name stars will take to the stage for the Elton John: I’m Still Standing- A Grammy Salute, before the singer himself is reportedly expected to perform in front of a crowd.

The concert will take place two days after the Grammys, on January 30, at The Theater at Madison Square Garden in New York, with stars including Keith Urban, Miley Cyrus, John Legend and Sam Smith expected to join forces.

It follows similar tributes to everyone from Stevie Wonder and The Beatles, to Frank Sinatra and the Bee Gees.

“Sir Elton John is an international music legend who has captivated audiences across generations for more than five decades,” Neil Portnow, President/CEO of the Recording Academy, said in a statement.

“His creativity, dynamic presence, and melodic virtuosity have positioned him as a cultural icon, and the Recording Academy is pleased to honor his immeasurable contributions to the music community.”

John has won an incredible five Grammys during his career, with the first – ‘That’s What Friends Are For’ with Stevie Wonder, Dionne Warwick and Gladys Knight – in 1986.

He also won the Oscar in 1995 for ‘Can You Feel the Love Tonight’ from ‘The Lion King’.

And he’s been keeping busy, as he wraps up his ‘Once In A Lifetime’ world tour ahead of the tribute concert next year.

He’s ending his famous Las Vegas show next year to focus on raising his two children and other work commitments.

Meanwhile, his partner and manager has said that he doesn’t think John will ever give up performing.

ABC News reports that David Furnish made the comments during an interview with Music Week.

“Without question, Elton must never stop performing,” he said. “We all have things that kind of keep us alive in life. Some people relish the idea of a retirement where they do nothing [but] for Elton that would be purgatory. Playing to live audiences is going to be something he always needs to do.”
