The race is only hours away and while the horses and their jockey’s get ready, some of the Melbourne Cup’s high-profile guests have started to arrive.

Thousands of people are expected to flood through the gates today and while they call it ‘the race that stops the nation’ it’s the fashion that often causes the biggest stir and this year is no different!

Julie Bishop, Gina Rinehart, Bec Hewitt Jennifer Hawkins and last year’s winner Michelle Payne have all put on a stunning display in eye-catching outfits, with the men looking dapper in their suits.

While everyone looks spectacular, it’s Gina Rinehart who is garnering the most attention this year, showing off her newly slimmed down frame in an all-white get up.

Gina arrived with Olympic gold medallist Mack Horton as her date for the day, with the young swimmer looking sharp in a grey suit and pink shirt.

She was spotted chatting to Foreign Minister Julie Bishop who also looked lovely in her detailed black hat and fitted dress with specks of colour throughout.

It seems like the who’s who of Australian entertainment also turned up for the day with Molly Meldrum, Samantha Armytage, Jennifer Hawkins and Bec and Lleyton Hewitt also making an appearance – and of course there is plenty of crazy fashion on display too!

Michelle Payne looked stunning in a lovely pink dress with matching headpiece and heels. She’ll be changing into her jockey gear soon as she gets ready to ride once again following her historic victory last year.

Who’s your best dressed? Will you be watching the race today?

Poor Gina, she really does need to get herself a Stylist!

    • Valerie Brittain

Oh yes definitely was looking for the groom or something

    • rickie barnes

Dont think she can afford it, the Chinese took her money.

    • John McInerney

Gina is looking a lot like Henry VIII on a bad day. Money doesn’t buy taste.

  3. Judy

Sorry Julie ,,time to cover those arms ,first sign of aging ,,from one who knows

    • Sandy Balfour

My thoughts as well – so aging. Also time for the false eyelashes to go.

    • Wilma Wright

I know what you are saying Judy, I go sleeveless where I know that no-one will judge me, but for a “do” like this, I would definitely have sleeves.

  4. Andrea Denton

Money does not buy class or good taste.

  5. Valerie Brittain

Have to comment on Gina again looks like a lamp shade. Australia’s richest woman looks like White trash. Way over the top. Keep it simple Gina

I love Bec but who dressed her in that curtain material remnant. They should be ashamed to do that to such a lovely young girl.

  8. SAS gets more like New Idea and Woman’s Day by the minute. Why the constant stream of superficial claptrap?
Surely there are more interesting articles to comment on apart from who’s wearing what and what members of the Royal family had for breakfast etc. Not all of us want to read this garbage. give some of us a break and print some worthwhile articles please.

    • Pat Zammit

Why does everything have to be more worthwhile, I like looking at the photos especialy the crazy headwear. IF you are not interested why read it no one is forcing you.

There is not enough money in the world to make Gina look good

    • Janet

      Too true!
      Frump personified!
Has worn dungarees for so long that she’s not only forgotten how to dress as a female, but how to dress for her size, & odd figure.
Hasn’t got enough sense to employ a stylist

Even HER money can’t buy a personality transplant.
Why’d she fall down the steps? Not used to high heels, or some other reason?

Is she looking for a bloke?

Gina slimmed down? Where have you been! Oh and the chickenwire headwear?
