The Doctor is out: ABC cancels one its most popular series

A loyal audience that would tune in every week wasn’t enough to save the ABC show The Doctor Blake Mysteries from coming to an end.

In a statement released from the ABC, as head of scripted production Sally Riley stated, “Dr Blake has had a sensational run on the ABC and we feel that the time is right to go out while we are still on top. We have a fantastic final season still to come and we look forward to wrapping the series up with a satisfying movie-length finale, as we bid farewell to an Australian TV icon”.

Someone might have wanted to have a meeting the cast and crew as they were shocked by the announcement. Doctor Blake actor Craig McLachlan took to the social media site Instagram to release his statement were he said the news was “disappointing” as he believed that show could “run and run”.

Whether or not the real reason for the show being pulled as part of ABC’s major restructuring which will see over 200 employees lose their jobs is yet to be seen.

A petition from the “Blake Army” has started with millions wanted to save the cancelled show.

Were you a fan of the show?  What do you think about the cancellation?
