From ‘Six Million Dollar Man’ to ‘The Fall Guy’ Lee Majors proved he was a major player in Hollywood

For an actor that started his career in 1964 at the tender age of 25 to be working regularly is a sign of great longevity. If you hear that the actor in question is Lee Majors, you might think that makes sense.

Majors started off primarily in westerns his big break came in the 1965 series The Big Valley where he played Heath Barkley. Fearing that he was getting typed cast as a western actor, Majors tried to branch out. While he still appeared in the western series The Virginian in 1971 he tried his hand at medical dramas as well with a guest role on Marcus Welby, M.D. and The Sixth Sense.

What had to be one of the strangest times, but successful, times in his career from was 1971 to 1978. In that time Majors started in a TV Movie The Six Million Dollar Man which spawned two more TV Movies as well as starring in the successful law drama Owen Marshall, Counselor at Law. The demand for more Six Million Dollar Man meant that when Counselor at Law ended in 1974, Majors immediately started production on The Six Million Dollar Man television show. Majors would also appear on the spin off series The Bionic Woman during this time. Majors’ then wife Farrah Fawcett was the star of the equally popular Charlie’s Angels which was the first time a husband and wife had the two top rated programs on television.

After the Six Million Dollar Man ran out of battery in 1978, Majors returned to westerns as he was once quoted as saying “In westerns, I’m right at home. When they tell me to ride that horse through that scene one more time, I say “Sure, glad to,” because I remember when I was the one doing all that running”.

With some starring roles in films and guest roles on TV Shows like The Love Boat, Majors returned to television full time with another huge hit series The Fall Guy. He got to do another first in this series as he sung the theme song of the show

After The Fall Guy landed, Majors continues to appear in popular films and television shows including the horror comedy hit Ash vs. Evil Dead on the streaming service Stan. He also has created a very successful career doing voice-over work in cartoons and video games.
