Dick Smith comes out on top in poll of your favourite Aussies

The votes have been counted and the results are in!

The My Big Ideas poll has found that Australians think the most trustworthy person in the public eye is entrepreneur and ‘buy Aussies’ advocate Dick Smith.

Dick beat out all politicians past and present for the top honour with people loving his honesty and his support of Australian businesses.

He wasn’t the only beloved Aussie to make the list, with Hollywood heartthrob Hugh Jackman coming in as the Most Caring Australian.

Hugh has been a favourite for many people since he found fame thanks to his fun-loving nature and his work to help children find homes with adoptive families.

He was followed by former Australian of the Year and anti-domestic violence campaigner Rosie Batty, Mr Smith, Governor-General Sir Peter Cosgrove, media dames Ita Buttrose and Kerri-Anne Kennerly and singer Jess Mauboy.

In a telling result, not many pollies made the list with Malcolm Turnbull securing the highest ranking in the Most Trustworthy category at number six.

Former PM Tony Abbott came in at number eight, with cricketer Steve Waugh slotting in at number seven.

Neither politician was as lucky when it came to the Most Caring category though, with Mr Abbott landing number 14, Kevin Rudd at 15, Bill Shorten at 16, and Mr Turnbull at 18.

The poll results have already ignited a lot of conversation about who should have made the list and who should have been left off.

A number of notable names were not mentioned in the poll results, such as Pauline Hanson and Karl Stefanovic among others.

Do you agree with the poll results? Who do you think should be added to the list?
