Bear Grylls in hot water after animal stunt

He’s made a name for himself as the man who can conquer the wild, but Bear Grylls might have just taken things one step too far.

Viewers were left horrified when he forced one of the guests on his show to kill a crocodile with a knife in front of the cameras.

British reality TV star Ollie Locke was Grylls’ guest in the episode, which showed him jumping on the crocs back and stabbing it through the back of its neck on an episode of ‘The Island with Bear Grylls’.

The croc eventually died, leaving viewers and animals rights activists horrified.

Alan Knight, of International Animal Rescue, said: “I feel it is totally unacceptable to kill or abuse animals for entertainment.”

Knight says the animal would have “suffered unnecessarily” as Locke would not have a clue how to do it “humanely”.

It’s not the first time Grylls has come under fire for his treatment of animals on his shows. He is regularly seen hunting and killing wildlife as he shows people how to survive in the wild.

The question that’s now being asked is: did he take it too far?

While a Channel 4 spokesperson said, “Those on the island all received training on how to kill animals humanely and this was utilised properly in each instance”, it was clear that the croc was in distress and suffering throughout the attack.

Many are calling for the show to be cancelled and for Grylls’ to face consequences for the killing.
