The bad blood between Johnny Depp and Barnaby Joyce doesn’t look like it’s going away any time soon…

The actor and Barnaby clashed when Johnny and his wife, actress Amber Heard, were visiting Australia last year and unknowingly brought their two dogs, Pistol and Boo, into the country illegally.

Barnaby, who at the time was the Minister for Agriculture, jumped on the issue straight away and declaredΒ on national radio that he would euthanise the dogs as punishment for “smuggling” them into the country.

“Mr Depp has to either take his dogs back to California or we’ll euthanise them,” the MP said during an interview on 3AW Radio.

“That’s the deal.

“And if people think that’s a bit harsh, well I’ll tell you what harsh is. Harsh is if we let down our guard and ultimately rabies gets into the country.”

As he walked the red carpet at the Grammy’s yesterday, Johnny was asked by an Australian reporter if he’d forgiven Barnaby yet and if he still loved Australia.

“Of course, I love Australia!” He said.

“I think that guy, Barnaby, he invited me to stay at his house for some reason.”

Johnny had previously spoken about the issue on a popular late night talk show in America, telling the audience that Barnaby was a “weird, sweaty-pated gut man”.

He also said that if he or his wife were arrested over the incident, he would “fly to Australia and assault that man (Joyce)”.

Johnny’s wife Amber is set to appear at Southport Magistrates Court in Queensland on April 12 over the incident.
Australia’s strict quarantine laws carry huge consequences if they are broken, with a maximum 10 years in prison and a $102,000 fine.

Did Johnny’s comments about Barnaby make you laugh? Or should he learn to face his mistake and get over it?

  1. Johnny Depp was in the wrong. It is time to stop reporting everything he says. He just wants free publicity and the media is obliging.

    • I agree, Nan. If it was an innocent mistake why were they smuggled in inside a carry-on bag? It was a deliberate flaunting of the law.

    • Of course he was in the wrong. But Barnaby’s response was so stupid that it gave Depp ammunition – which he will continue to use.

    • typical they do the wrong thing get caught & its everyone else’s fault bloody little upstart comes into our country & think they can flaunt the rules

    • He is rude and nasty and his wife needs to realise that rules are rules.

  2. The law is for everyone, just because his a movie star does not mean he may break our laws.grow up johnny. 😏

    • Maybe our politicans need to heed your advice.
They do not have to go through customs when leaving or entering Australia. Nor do diplomats from other countries.
So the law is NOT the same for everyone.

  3. Yes I laughed. Yes they were in the wrong but YES Barnaby handled it wrong because it was a celebrity. Get over it people. We have bigger issues as over sixties in this country!

    • the difference is , I would pay to see Depp but would anyone seriously pay to go see Barnaby ? you got to laugh. Barnaby think he is a legend on this Island down the bottom of the world but Depp is a legend all over the world

    • Noel he was NOT treated differently but you have to put things in perspective here, Depp is NOT your average Aussie, he is a powerful man who is known right around the world and he has easy access to swipe at Barnaby both here and Internationally. This stuff does not make Australia look good on the world stage..where was the diplomacy? from the man from the bush

    • And let’s face it. The puppies belonged to his girlfriend so she was responsible regardless. But if Barnaby came out with guns bk5azing at her, he would not have got the publicity he wanted. Most people breaking a customs law here would be dealt with and we wouldnt ever hear about it.

    • Fran perhaps you can explain how you handle something when it is a “CELEBRITY” involved. The law is the law no matter what the staus of the perpetrator is.

    • Well said , I saw this and my first thought was ‘ get over it ‘ it’s done it’s past we know they did wrong who cares what they think now .bigger issues Barnaby , or is this going to be your MO publicly brawling with past events .

  4. HE IS WRONG HE Broke our law, if we did that in America, we would have a criminal Record. And be refused entry to America. He is full of himself. And above the law.

  5. Depp and Joyce are feeding off each other and look at the publicity both are getting..convenient isn’t it πŸ™‚

  6. Barnaby’s comments at the time were a tad over the top BUT the Depps were in the wrong and Depp should pull his head in. Also please will the media stop giving both the idiots free air time over this.

    • Barnaby was in the right and does say things tongue in cheek sometimes but obviously The Depps’ have an over rated opinion of themselves.

  7. His wife needs to get over herself, she’s a nobody and thinks she’s above our strict laws, just because of her husband. Well, she has to face up to the fact she broke the law and accept the consequences. It has nothing to do with Johnny Depp, only his wife. He needs to back out of the conflict his wife is causing by her stupidity.

  8. Your quite right fran, the media jumps on everything which makes it worse. If they just stop giving this publicity it will die down . 😏

  9. The Depps broke the law, probably out of ignorance rather than deliberately, but Barnaby Joyce came across as a twat, bullying and vindictive.

  10. Get over it Johnny Depp…If you don’t follow our laws then don’t bother coming back…..you are not above and better then anyone else when it comes to declaring and following our strict laws. So serve your self right. …Still spitting the dummy….grow up…….PS think you should put your time and engery into singing lessons!!!!!!’ So there .
