An unlikely choice to direct this controversial biopic

He isn’t known for his directing credits but Hollywood actor George Clooney is set to direct a film about the Murdoch phone hacking scandal that took place between 2005 and 2007 and saw celebrities and royals targeted by the media heavyweight. It was one of the biggest controversies in journalism ever and spelled the end for News of the World in 2011 once the shocking details came to light.

Clooney has a special interest in the Murdoch case as he is quite anti-media – in July he attacked the Daily Mail about three false stories they published about his fiancee. He is protective of his personal life and it seems the hacking scandal has struck a cord with him.

Based on the bestselling book Hack Attack by Nick Davies, Clooney will start his latest role in the director’s chair next year.

“This has all the elements, lying, corruption, blackmail, at the highest levels of government by the biggest newspaper in London” Clooney said.

It’s not clear yet who will star in the movie but we’re interested to find out – it’ll be a film with a lot of buzz when it’s released….

Will you watch this film? Who do you think will be in the biopic?
