Happy New Year: Take the Starts at 60 ‘Three Word Challenge’ for 2019

Dec 31, 2018

Well, another year down!

Seems crazy how fast time goes these days doesn’t it.

For our new years message I decided I don’t want to wax lyrical about the year that was.  It was an amazing year, and I reflected on that in my long Christmas message.

I want to look forward this time, into 2019 and what we can make of it together.  And for the fun of it, this year I’m choosing three words to live by and I want you to do the same (if you are up for a bit of fun that is.).

If you haven’t seen it before the “New Years – Three words to live by” is a really rather cool way to set values and goals for the year ahead without really setting anything in stone.

I’m going to work and live by these three words for these three reasons in 2019.  At the end of the year I’ll reflect too:

“Together”

Together to me means many things to me this year.  It means I will make an effort to spend more time with my family, together (not in pairs, but all-together while the kids are still young enough to have fun doing so).  Look out kids! That means more family bike rides.

At work, I will also make an even bigger effort to build things “together” with our community and our industries and our team.  That is, I will really chat about your needs, and the opportunities to work with companies to address them, and we’ll solve things “together” rather than alone.  We need to to bring amazing travel and good quality financial solutions, and great ways to improve your health.

It aligns with our new homepage of Starts at 60 – We’re better together.  I love the feeling that I get when I say the word “together”. It’s warm. It’s something to live by.  Far better than “alone” or “busy”.

“Smarter”

This aligns with my desire to yes, finally do things smarter not harder.  Those who know me will laugh right now! I love a hard way and I love a challenge but this year I’m going to look for and take the smarter path! I’m going to actively strive to choose “smarter”, and that is what I’m hanging on my wall.  If it can be done “more easily” by being “smarter” about our choices – I’m going to choose it.  From weight loss and health, to car washing, gardening and work – everything will become smarter, not harder.

Hold me accountable team, family, community!  Let’s do it smarter in 2019!

“Experiences”

The older I get (did I hear you over-60s snickering at my humble soon-to-be 43 years) the more I want to seek out experiences, and keep seeking them, more actively.  It’s a deliberate contrast to how I lived my life before, seeking success, or seeking achievement or seeking stability or seeking downtime. Now, in 2019, I’m going to seek experiences.  I can’t wait. I’m going to choose to do things that I haven’t done before, to try things I haven’t, and to get out from in front of my computer, ipad or tv. It means I will look for and go to a new beach with my dogs on a weekend; or try a new computer game with my son; or book a crazy weekend away camping somewhere new.  It’s coming in 2019.

So, I’ve given you my three words for 2019.  I want you to give me yours, and your why! Make it worthwhile, make it meaningful, make it fun.  And make it something you can look back on at the end of the year and do a happy dance about. After all, it’s a new year.

Wishing you all a wonderful New Year.

From all of us at Starts at 60 and Travel at 60

We do love you all!  (I get all sentimental at New Years)!
