No more restrictions! Woolies finally scraps Covid-19 purchase limits

As coronavirus began to spread across the country back in March, many Australians panicked and started stockpiling products such as toilet paper, antibacterial wipes, pasta and flour. This surge led to purchase restrictions being put in place across all the major supermarket chains and now, as the number of active cases continues to drop, Woolworths has finally lifted its remaining restrictions.

The supermarket giant announced the news on Monday, revealing that any remaining purchase restrictions relating to Covid-19 would be lifted. The remaining restrictions applied to antibacterial wipes, hand wash and frozen fruit, while other limits had previously been lifted.

“We are pleased to lift all purchase limit restrictions today, ” Managing Director Claire Peters said in a statement. “This is a big milestone and a positive sign following months of hard work from our teams and significant support from our suppliers to ensure the replenishment of our shelves during a period of extraordinary demand.

“We are thankful to everyone for their patience with us over these last few months.”

However, Woolworths will continue to enforce product limits that were in place prior to the buying surge, for example on products such as baby formula.

Woolies’ announcement today comes two months after Coles began easing its own purchase limits, having also clamped down on panic buying amid the outbreak of coronavirus. Coles became the first supermarket to begin lifting restrictions in April.

The Aussie supermarket began by scrapping restrictions on mince meat and fresh milk, before lifting all restrictions on May 29.
