She’s been busily preparing for Christmas since July and First Lady of the United States has finally unveiled this year’s White House Christmas decorations and display.
On Sunday evening, the 48-year-old gave her followers a sneak peek of this year’s theme, taking to her Twitter page with some photographs of people decorating America’s most famous house.
“Thank you to all the volunteers from across our great nation who are working hard to decorate the White House,” she wrote. “Can’t wait to view it all tomorrow night.”
This year marks the second the Trumps are celebrating Christmas at the White House. The theme is “American Treasures”, in honour of the unique heritage of the United States.
According to the White House, Melania herself designed the decorations. She took to her Twitter page on Monday evening to share a video of some of the decorations.
Each decoration holds a special meaning to both the former model and America. In the East Wing, the Gold Star Family tree was erected, honouring troops and families to have sacrificed greatly to protect the freedom of Americans.
“Gold stars and patriotic ribbon decorate the tree and visitors are encouraged to write messages to their loved ones who are on duty or abroad on the digital tablets provided,” the White House said in a statement.
The trees don’t stop there, with more than 40 topiary trees lining the East colonnade of the White House. There are also four trees in the Library, two sparkly trees in the Vermeil room, and four 14-foot Noble fir trees displaying 72 handmade paper ornaments representing the six regions across America.
Another tree stands in the Green Room, where a variety of fruits, vegetables and grains were used to decorate the tree, while the official 18-foot White House Christmas tree stands in the Blue Room, decorated with more than 500 feet of blue velvet ribbon, embroidered in gold with each US state and territory.
In the East Garden Room, the First Family Christmas card and ornament are on display, while an array of other national symbols are in display in other rooms of the white house.
“This is a joyous time of year when we decorate the White House for the Christmas Season,” Melania said in a statement. “Our theme honours the heart and spirit of the American people.
“Thank you to the many volunteers and staff who worked hard to decorate the halls of the People’s House in Christmas cheer. On behalf of my family, we wish everyone a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.”
More than 30,000 people are expected to visit the White House in December.
The display divided people on the internet, with some not so sure what to make of the decorations.
“It looks like the trees were dipped in blood (of the innocent, perhaps?)” one person said in response to some red trees that had been put on display.
Another person added: “I’m sure Putin really loves your “Red Ode to Russia’ section.
There were others who were huge fans of the decorations, with one person writing: “Absolutely beautiful in every way.”
Another said: “Beautiful, Mrs Trump!!! A reflection of your beauty and grace!”
It comes after Melania and Donald welcomed the Blue Room Christmas tree last week.
The iconic festive carol ‘O Christmas Tree’ played as the tree arrived, with both Donald and Melania walking around the carriage to inspect the tree. The president gave a nod of approval, before giving one of the horses a pat.
The tree was presented by Larry Smith, the winner of the National Christmas Tree Contest. It originated from Mountain Top Fraser Fir in Newland, North Carolina.
The White House Christmas tree selection is a competitive process overseen by the National Christmas Tree Association, which has provided the official tree to the White House since 1966.
