Toddler critical after being found floating ‘face down’ in NSW river

A toddler is in a critical condition after being found floating in water off the New South Wales coast on Tuesday afternoon.

The child, who according to Nine News is a girl aged three-years-old, was reported missing after reportedly falling from a boat near the town of Brooklyn, which lies around 55km north of Sydney.

NSW Police confirmed emergency services responded to reports of a missing child in the Hawkesbury River at around 12.45pm with Marine Area Command locating her in the water and commencing CPR.

The toddler was transported to land with paramedics continuing treatment before she was transported to Westmead hospital in Sydney where she remains in a critical condition.

NSW Ambulance also confirmed to Nine News that paramedics were called to the scene following reports of a missing child.

“Four crews and a Toll Ambulance Rescue Helicopter were tasked to the area around 12.50pm to assist water police in the operation,” they reportedly said in a statement.

“Officers from Marine Area Command recovered the child from the water south of Dangar Island. CPR was commenced and the girl was stabilised by paramedics at a nearby boat ramp.”

Investigations into how the incident occurred have commenced.
