All eyes were on the British royal family on Friday as the Queen’s granddaughter Princess Eugenie said “I do” and married long-term partner Jack Brooksbank at St George’s Chapel, Windsor Castle.
However there was one member of the family noticeably missing from the regal occasion, as Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall, was more than 800 kilometres away in Scotland as she carried out an official engagement in Aberdeenshire.
Camilla, 71, visited Alford Community Campus and met schoolchildren and teachers who use the centre, before meeting more pupils at Crathie Primary School.
The Duchess of Rothesay, as she is known in Scotland, then enjoyed a spot of afternoon tea with members of the local community at The Duke of Rothesay Highland Games Pavilion in Braemar, Aberdeenshire, which tells the story of the country’s infamous Highland Games.

The campus offers facilities for the local community including a library, theatre, dance studio and swimming pool. Camilla honoured her location by donning a number of tartan outfits throughout the day, first opting for an unusual mid-length dress in a grey checked design, which she wore over a crisp white shirt with a rounded collar.
The Prince of Wales’ wife then donned her go-to green tartan suit, made up of an elegant fitted jacket and skirt, which she was last seen wearing in September when she attended a concert at St Mary’s Cathedral in the capital city of Edinburgh.
It had been widely reported before Eugenie’s wedding on Friday that Camilla would be unable to attend, as sources confirmed to The Telegraph that her absence was simply because she had already accepted an invitation from local schools to attend a harvest festival and that she confirmed before she received an invite from Princess Eugenie and her husband-to-be.
In January, the palace announced that the wedding would take place in the autumn of 2018, although specifics about the date were not yet finalised.
Camilla’s spokesperson rubbished rumours she wasn’t attending the wedding due to a feud with Sarah Ferguson, and assured readers Princess Eugenie and Jack had known about her conflicting schedule for some time. They also said she gets along “very well” with Sarah.
