It has been almost five months since the world stopped to welcome the newest member of the British royal family, baby Archie Harrison Mountbatten-Windsor. Now, his proud father Prince Harry has delighted fans by giving a rare public update on his son’s progress.

The Duke of Sussex was attending a children’s rugby event at a high school in the English town of Luton this week when he was quizzed about how his new parenting role was going, with one of the youngsters asking him: “Prince Harry, how is everything going with Archie?”

And – despite the duke and duchess wishing to protect their four-month-old son’s privacy as much as possible – the 34-year-old royal, who actually celebrates his 35th birthday today, treated the school children to a sweet update.

“He is really well, thanks,” he said to the youngsters. “And he’s getting so big!”

Footage of the exchange has since been shared online by various fan accounts for the royal couple and people were quick to share their delight at hearing Harry discuss his young son. One person wrote: “Awwww, so good to hear that. Can’t wait to see him.”

Another said: “Lord that’s a beautiful and precious baby boy. Congratulations again Prince Harry and duchess Meghan on your beautiful bundle of joy.” While a third commented: “So cute seeing him interact with kids, the kids love him!”

The official event was held in collaboration with the Rugby Football Union (RFU) All Schools programme, which aims to increase the number of secondary state schools playing rugby union. Prince Harry became Patron of RFU All Schools in 2013, and became Patron of the Rugby Football Union in 2017, succeeding his grandmother Her Majesty The Queen.

Harry’s latest update comes just days ahead of the Sussexes first overseas tour together as a family of three, with Harry, Meghan and Archie set to jet off to South Africa later this month. The family will leave the UK on September 23, and the duke has previously spoken about his excitement at introducing his wife and son to the country.

Details of the 10-day trip were confirmed by the palace earlier this month, with the royal couple also sharing a post on their official Instagram account. “Their Royal Highnesses will embark on this official tour focusing on community, grassroots leadership, women’s and girls’ rights, mental health, HIV/AIDS and the environment,” they wrote.

“This programme has been many months in the making, and The Duke and Duchess are eager to focus their energies on the great work being done in Southern Africa.”

Harry and Meghan will meet Archbishop Desmond Tutu on the trip, as well as carrying out many charitable duties including joining educational program ‘Waves for Change’ on Monwabisi Beach. While Prince Harry will continue his mother Princess Diana’s legacy, as he will join Halo Trust in an effort to rid the world of landmines.

Harry, 34, will also travel to Malawi to check on the British Army’s partnership with African Parks, and will also deliver a brand new initiative which he designed himself, a Queen’s Commonwealth Canopy three-country partnership, with Governments in Namibia, Botswana and Angola, to protect forest and wildlife corridors around the Okavango Delta.

The post continued: “The Duchess will be working with local organisations to promote women and girls’ health and education, entrepreneurship and leadership.”

It concluded: “We look forward to seeing you soon!”
