The Duchess of Sussex attracts legions of fans everywhere she goes, and the reaction was no different last week when she made a surprise appearance at a UK school to mark International Women’s Day.
As pupils and teachers alike buzzed with excitement over the duchess’ attendance at Robert Clack Upper School, in Essex, one lucky teenage lad got the opportunity to hug the duchess after she invited him on stage to deliver a speech to his classmates about what International Women’s Day means to him.
Not only did he get a hug from Meghan though, confident Head Boy Aker Okoye seized his opportunity and appeared to steal a kiss from the royal, planting a quick peck on the royal’s cheek as she congratulated him for delivering the speech.
A video of the boy’s address was shared on the Sussex Royal official Instagram page on Sunday to make the occasion, and it showed the lad earning a roar of laughter from the crowd as he kicked off his moment in the spotlight by saying: “She really is beautiful, innit?”.

The Duchess of Sussex visited Robert Clack School, to celebrate the women of the future, and also highlight the important role men and boys play in International Women’s Day. The Duchess asked a young student to come on stage and share his perspective on the importance of the day, and whilst much attention has been focused on his initial comment, what he shared beyond that was compelling and true. Meghan burst into a fit of laughter upon hearing the compliment before reprimanding the teen by jokingly wagging her finger at him, as the crowd of school children went wild. He then said: “I had to speak the truth there.”
The boy went on to explain why International Women’s Day, which is celebrated on March 8 each year, was so important to him. He said: “For me it’s a reminder that it’s not only me that is a part of my life, it reminds me that there’s a countless amount of people that are in my life, lots of strong women, people that actually uplift me as a man.”
Meghan’s appearance at the school on Friday came one day ahead of her glamorous outing with husband Prince Harry, as the royal couple – who will cease to be senior members of the firm on March 31 – attended the Mountbatten Music Festival at the Royal Albert Hall.
The duchess looked sensational for the engagement as she stepped out in the stunning bright red gown, which fell to the floor and also featured a striking train. Sticking with the colour scheme, Meghan paired the show-stopping gown with a pair of suede stilettos in the same hue and a matching satin clutch bag.
Meanwhile Prince Harry looked equally as glamorous, attending the event in his role of Captain General of the Royal Marines – a position he took on in 2017 from his grandfather, Prince Philip.
Harry wore his formal military uniform for the outing, made up of a red jacket donned with medals and black pants with a red stripe down the side. It will likely be the last time the father-of-one will be seen wearing the full military dress, as he steps away from the Captain General position when the couple cease their roles as senior members of the royal family.
The performance at Royal Albert Hall marks the 75th anniversary of the end of World War II, and the 80th anniversary of the formation of Britain’s Commandos. Harry and Meghan will be treated to musical entertainment for the Royal Marines Association – The Royal Marines Charity.
