Camilla doesn’t often speak openly about her family while on royal engagements, but she made an exception to share a passionate message to brave air ambulance personnel on her latest outing.

The Duchess of Cornwall, 71, surprised a crowd when she revealed one of her grandchildren had been rescued and airlifted to hospital some time ago in a shock hospital dash.

While she didn’t name which grandchild she was referring to, the Daily Mirror reports it was likely her granddaughter Eliza, as the duchess later mentioned how her daughter Laura Lopes, (Eliza’s mother), joined the child in the helicopter.

Camilla was opening Wiltshire Air Ambulance’s new airbase at the time, and dressed up for the occasion in a light pink coat and knee-high black winter boots as she met some of the staff in front of one of their helicopters.

“I just really wanted to say a huge thank you to everybody who has been involved with this wonderful project,” she said in her speech, the news outlet reports.

“I know what fantastic work the air ambulance does… I’ve seen it and I have known friends that have literally been saved by it.

“Even in Yorkshire my granddaughter was taken off in the Yorkshire one, one year, and luckily she was sorted and alright, but it gave my daughter such confidence to be aboard it.”

The official Clarence House Instagram page explained that the charity hopes “to become a world-class centre for training and delivery of critical care in order to continue to deliver the highest standards to patients.”.

The post added: “During the visit, HRH presented Colin Smith, 78, from Chippenham, with an award from the Association of Air Ambulances. Colin is the charity’s longest-serving volunteer at 19 years’ service and has travelled over 40,000 miles across the Wiltshire to help increase the number of charity tins from 50 to 1,000.”

Fortunately, Camilla’s grandchild is said to be “fine” after the incident – with no more details yet available on exactly what happened.

Meanwhile, it comes as the duchess and her husband Prince Charles released their 2018 Christmas card photo on Friday.

The couple were seen sat together on a bench in their Clarence House garden gazing at each other and smiling.

Unlike their younger family members, the couple were dressed up as if they were attending an official engagement with Charles in a smart suit and tie, while Camilla opted for a stunning cream dress and her favourite pearl necklace with a huge jewel at the front.

Have you or anyone you know ever relied on the air ambulance in an emergency?
