A Queensland family were forced to call for backup after waking to find a massive python taking a nap in their home

Lee-Ann Kennedy and her husband received the shock of their lives when they found the five metre long creature, weighing a whopping 40kg curled up in the laundry, The Courier Mail reports.

According to the publication it was around 4.30am on Friday when the couple discovered the reptile at their Mission Beach home in North Queensland.

Although apparently unfazed by the snake, Lee-Ann thought it was best to ask for help from local snake catcher Charlie Bear and her nephew Tom Geary.

In a frightening video shared on Facebook simply captioned “interesting morning” the snake catchers can be seen pulling the creature out from the laundry into the back shed by the tail.

They continue to fight with the snake as it battles to escape their grip, twisting and turning trying to escape.

“Oh you smart bugger,” someone can be heard saying as they carefully manoeuvre around the snake.

After many failed attempts to capture the creature in a bag, the snake is finally secured. It was then released in a nearby national park.

The frightening video has since been viewed over 750,000 times with hundreds of people commenting how scared they would have been in that situation.

“Snake that size would be able to kill a large dog or child,” one person exclaimed.

While another praised the snake catchers for not harming the creature. “Well done for rescuing the snake and not killing it, which would be the first reaction,” they wrote. “The snake didn’t try to attack the people, it wanted to get away, which in most cases is its first instinct.”

A third simply said: “That’s one big nope nope”.

Although it was frightening for some, Lee-Ann joked it would be a great way to attract tourists to the area.

“It’s really great advertising for far north Queensland,” she told The Courier Mail. “Come here and you’re bound to have a great experience, whether it be pythons, Hercules moths, Ulysses butterflies or crocodiles.

“Everything’s just big here.”

A plethora of snakes have been spotted around the country over the past few months with one terrified mother going to extreme measures to protect her family after finding a brown snake in her baby’s cot.

The Melbourne woman was left in a state of shock last month when she discovered the deadly eastern brown snake taking a rest in her home, the Heidelberg Leader reports.

Just moments after placing her three-month-old in bed, the mum spotted the reptile which had come out of hiding from underneath the mattress forcing her to flee her home in tears with her child. The snake even reportedly pooed in the cot after hearing the mum’s screams.

Speaking to the publication following the terrible ordeal Snake catcher Heath Morehu from Heaths Snake Control said the woman claimed she never wanted to return home with two snake appearances in a matter of days.

He explained she was obviously shocked by what had occurred and frightened at the possibility that the snake could have killed her beloved child.

“Removalists are going to come and collect all of her stuff,” Morehu explained to the Heidelberg Leader.

“She told me: ‘no that’s it’. She’s not going back in there. They will be putting the house on the market.”

How do you think you would have reacted in that situation? Have you ever seen a snake that big?
