Police are an the hunt for a man who allegedly stabbed an elderly resident in the chest before fleeing the scene in an incident at the weekend.

The 85-year-old was allegedly attacked at a hotel in the inner-city suburb of Alexandria on Saturday afternoon.

Emergency services were called to the scene on Henderson Street just before 3pm where the elderly man was found with a stab wound to his chest.

He was quickly transported to hospital where he remained in a serious condition from the injury which was allegedly inflicted by a man known to him.

Police have since begun a search for the alleged attacker who according to The Sydney Morning Herald, still remains on the run.

“Officers from Redfern Police Area Command attended and were told he was stabbed by a man known to him, who then fled the scene,” NSW Police confirmed in a statement.

“A crime scene has been established and police have commenced inquiries to identify and locate the man involved.”

Anyone with information is urged to come forward.

The shocking incident follows reports a grandfather was attacked by a group of drunk thugs while he was setting up his market stall in a coastal city in Western Australia in the early hours of Saturday morning.

Speaking to the news outlet about the horrible incident, the grandad claimed one of the thugs stole a watermelon from his stall and kicked it to the ground while another threw an apple at his face.

“I tripped and then went on the ground and then he hit me,” he explained.

“I got a cut up here and then that’s it, they run away.”

The damage to Sam’s eye was apparently so bad that doctors claimed it’s lucky he didn’t lose an eye. Shocked by what had occurred the concerned grandfather said he would be keeping some pepper spray on hand to protect themselves next time.

“I’m sorry, we’ve had enough of this,” Sam admitted. “We can’t take it anymore.”

According to Perth Now the matter is being investigated by WA Police with anyone with information about the attack urged to come forward.
