A mother has been left gobsmacked after she picked up her two-year-old daughter’s birthday cake and spotted an epic error in the icing – but it was her disgruntled daughter’s face when seeing it that has sparked a huge reaction online.
Sharing the details of the cake fail on Facebook in a post that has since gone viral, Melin Jones from Missouri said she had gone to her local Walmart to pick up a birthday cake for her daughter Elizabeth.
There, she asked the employee to print her little girl’s nickname, Lizard, on the cake. However, Melin revealed it wasn’t until she got home that she realised the cake read ‘Happy Birthday Loser’, in red icing, leaving the mother in shock.
“Liz’s nickname is Lizard. I got her a cake at Walmart and asked the lady to write ‘Happy Birthday Lizard’. I did not look at it. Don’t ask me why,” she wrote in the post, alongside an image of her disappointed daughter.
“As I’m unloading the car I look quickly at it and notice the lady didn’t hear ‘Lizard’ she heard loser. So here’s my baby and her loser cake.”
Melin revealed she was initially mad at the mix-up, but now finds it funny, adding: “She did get a new cake!”
It sparked a huge reaction online, as one social media user commented: “Her face says it all!” while another added: “I literally just cried laughing.”
And other users created memes using the image of her daughter online, with some joking she looked like she’d just suffered an awkward life slip-up.
However, the mother reassured users her daughter can’t read yet, saying: “We didn’t tell her what it said, even if we did our two-year-old child wouldn’t know what a loser is. If you can’t laugh at this, then scroll.”
The hilarious post has since gone viral, being shared more almost 3,000 times.
It’s not the first time an X-rated word or image has been misinterpreted in a cake masterpiece. Earlier this year, a bakery from Minnesota in the United States made headlines around the world when a photo of one of its quirky creations was shared on Facebook.
Nadia Cakes uploaded a photograph of a pink cake known as a geode rock cake to its Facebook page. Like many cakes and sweets these days that are intended to look like realistic objects, this creation was meant to look like a geode rock. With its pink appearance though, many thought the cake actually looked more like female genitals than rocks.
Instead of becoming a PR nightmare, the bakery got in on the joke, posting an array of sassy responses to the thousands of people who joked about the cake’s controversial appearance.
