Footage of a paraglider being attacked by a pair of curious kangaroos has gone viral online after the man shared the video of his encounter with the Australian marsupials on YouTube.
Sharing a clip through the popular Viral Hog channel, the man explained the incident occurred on March 7 when he had been paragliding cross country for close to two hours near Canberra. When he reached what he thought was a safe location on a concrete slab of the old Orroral Space Tracking Station, the last thing he was expecting to deal with was a couple of protective kangaroos.
“I was concentrating on the landing and didn’t notice the Kangaroo until after I landed,” the man wrote on YouTube.
In the clip, which does contain some foul language, the man could be seen landing safely and the two kangaroos running towards him. At first they seemed friendly and the man could be heard cheekily greeting them.
“What’s up, Skip,” he yelled out to the first kangaroo that was running in his direction.
Without warning, the kangaroo could be seen charging at the man with force.
“F*** off,” the man told the kangaroo.
In manic scenes, video captured the moment the kangaroo attempted to claw the man.
“Go away,” he could be heard screaming during the attack. “F****** kangaroos.”
The roos then appeared to take the hint and skipped off into the distance with its buddy. Thankfully, the man wasn’t seriously injured during the incident.
“I packed up my paraglider and had to walk several kilometres to get phone reception and call a friend to come and collect me,” the man explained after being attacked twice by the animal.
The video has attracted more than 99,000 views and many comments.
One person wrote: “Good thing they were small. The more I learn about Kangaroos, the more I see why Australians see them as pests.”
Another comment read: “I love how casual he sounds saying ‘f****** Kangaroos’. Like getting jumped by one is just an everyday part of life in Australia!”
A third added: “The roo looked like he was trying to scare the dude away to protect his kid. To the big roo you were probably just looking like some flying sky monster. Pretty awesome vid.”
It’s not the first time a kangaroo attack in Australia has gone viral. Last year, a man took on a giant kangaroo to save his beloved pets in the outback.
Bree Tuohey shared a video that showed a massive kangaroo on her father’s property near the country town of Bendigo in Victoria. The roo had Bree’s father’s dogs in sight and could be seen bouncing in an attempt to attack them.
“Dad gets attacked by a kangaroo trying to get the dogs and still doesn’t drop his stubby,” Bree captioned the original clip.
Dressed in a singlet, shorts and sunglasses with a beer in his hand, Bree’s father Daniel could be seen marching up to the kangaroo. Unimpressed, the kangaroo used its legs to kick Daniel to the ground. He managed to save the can of beer in his hands and his two dogs.
