Anyone who wears dentures will know how funny and easy it can be to scare people with them. Whether it’s giving an unsuspecting grandchild a fright or surprising others in public when you forget to pop them in, many who wear dentures are able to see the funny side in them.
For one lady in the United States, her dentures have actually helped fight off a nude intruder. Last month, Titusville grandmother Pennelope Pettersen got the shock of her life when she noticed a 28-year-old man standing naked on her porch in the middle of the night.
According to WFTV9 News in America, Pennelope opened her blinds at around 2am expecting to see her beloved cat on the back porch. Instead, she was confronted by the man who wasn’t wearing any clothing at all.
Despite the shock, the grandmother decided to stand her ground and came up with a genius way to make the intruder flee.
“I always look first,” she explained. “I opened the blinds and said, ‘Well hell! That’s not my cat!’”
Pennelope, who had previously worked in security and law enforcement, thought on her toes and came up with a way she thought she could scare the unwanted man away. She pulled her false teeth from her mouth and yelled at the intruder. Luckily for her, it worked.
“Grandma! No teeth,” she screamed, as demonstrated in a hilarious re-enactment for the news segment.
Police found the man walking around naked when they arrived at the scene and immediately took him into custody. When police asked the suspect what happened to his clothes, he told them they were stolen. It is also believed he exposed himself to another neighbour in the area.
The man has since been charged with one count of exposing himself and one count of burglary.
Meanwhile, Pennelope said she wasn’t scared by the man and shrugged off the incident.
“He was just a dumb-ass,” she explained.
When shared on Facebook, Pennelope’s unique tactic to scare the man away has become an unlikely hit online.
One person said: “I love this woman!”
Another said: “Haha what a smart idea.”
A third joked: “Whatever it takes.”
Thanks to Pennelope’s quick thinking, it doesn’t look like the man will be shocking anyone else in the area soon. He’s currently being held on US$15,500 (AU$21,558, UK£11,941) bail.
