They are one of the most loved children’s acts across the world, with a career spanning three decades, and the original line-up of The Wiggles donned their colourful outfits once again this week as they reunited to raise funds for the bushfire relief effort.

However the evening took a turn for the worse when the original Yellow Wiggle, Greg Page, suffered a cardiac arrest on stage as the performance came to an end. The 48-year-old collapsed as he tried to exit the stage, with the scary medical episode being caught on camera by fans in the crowd at Sydney’s Castle Hill RSL.

Following the show, the band confirmed that Greg had suffered a cardiac arrest and said he was “recovering in hospital”, as they thanked fans for their support. They then shared another update on Saturday afternoon, alongside an image of Greg who could be seen smiling from his hospital bed as he gave a thumbs up to the camera.

“We’ve visited Greg this morning & he wanted to thank everyone for their well wishes,” the statement read. “He’s so grateful for the messages of love & support from⁣ around the world.

“Greg’s main concern was that the show tonight should go on.⁣ Let’s do it for Greg whilst raising much needed funds.”

Many people commented on the photo, sending their wishes for a speedy recovery to Greg and sharing their memories of seeing The Wiggles perform, with either their children or grandchildren.

One person wrote: “Sending get well wishes from the UK! Both of my children have loved the wiggles since being toddlers, they’ve been to see The Wiggles live on a few occasions when you toured the UK, the first time Greg was still the yellow wiggle. Please get well soon Greg, and thank you for all of the times you made me and my children laugh and smile.”

Another, who was at Friday night’s show, said: “The show last night was amazing. We (well my husband) won the framed CD auction. The kids were so excited when they saw it this morning. Wishing you a speedy recovery Greg.”

While another commented: “Sending prayers and well wishes. My daughter grew up on the original Wiggles. Greg and all the Wiggles feel like family…although Greg was always her favorite. She is 17 and has been literally in tears. So incredibly glad to see this picture. Much love, Greg, and prayers for a speedy and full recovery.”

Footage of the event was shared widely by media outlets and on social media, which showed Greg making his way to the side of the stage before appearing to fall over. According to multiple reports, he was treated at the scene with a defibrillator before being rushed to hopsital.

Anthony Field – who has been the Blue Wiggle since the band began in 1991 – spoke to 7News outside Sydney’s Westmead Hospital on Saturday. He said: “He was gone. He came off stage and collapsed and there was no pulse, there was no breathing. They really brought Greg back.”

All proceeds from the show – which saw Page reunite with Field and fellow founding members Murray Cook and Jeff Fatt – will go to the Red Cross Appeal and WIRES to assist with the current bushfire relief effort across the country.
