Tom Hanks and Rita Wilson share health update as they remain in isolation

Hollywood power couple Tom Hanks and Rita Wilson have given fans an update on their health and shared a smiling photograph of themselves in hospital, where they remain in isolation having tested positive for coronavirus earlier this week.

The duo, who have been married since 1988, shocked the world on Thursday when they revealed that they had been infected with COVID-19. And now, as they remain in a Gold Coast hospital, Tom has assured fans that they are being well taken care of.

“Hello folks. @ritawilson and I want to thank everyone here Down Under who are taking such good care of us,” he wrote on Instagram on Friday. “We have Covid-19 and are in isolation so we do not spread it to anyone else. There are those for whom it could lead to a very serious illness.

“We are taking it one-day-at-a-time. There are things we can all do to get through this by following the advice of experts and taking care of ourselves and each other, no? Remember, despite all the current events, there is no crying in baseball. Hanx.”

The update was posted alongside a photograph which shows Tom and Rita, who collectively have four children, in hospital, however the world-famous couple appear to be in good spirits as Rita can be seen smiling for the camera.

The couple are in Australia as Tom has been shooting for the upcoming Elvis Presley biopic, in which he will play the Love Is Tender crooner’s manager Colonel Tom Parker, while actress and singer-songwriter Rita has performed a string of solo shows across the country.

The Big star, 63, confirmed the news on social media yesterday morning, and revealed that he and Rita were tested after they began to feel like they had a cold, as well as suffering muscle aches, fatigue and chills. They returned positive results and are were taken straight to hospital.

“Hello, folks. Rita and I are down here in Australia,” Tom wrote on Instagram yesterday. “We felt a bit tired, like we had colds, and some body aches. Rita had some chills that came and went. Slight fevers too. To play things right, as is needed in the world right now, we were tested for the Coronavirus, and were found to be positive.”

He added: “Well, now. What to do next? The Medical Officials have protocols that must be followed. We Hanks’ will be tested, observed, and isolated for as long as public health and safety requires. Not much more to it than a one-day-at-a-time approach, no?”
