Karl Stefanovic breaks social media silence with tribute to great grandfather

Karl Stefanovic has broken his social media silence for the first time since January with a moving tribute to his great grandfather – alongside a rare photo with his new wife Jasmine Yarbrough.

The former Today show star, 44, visited Villers-Bretonneux France with Jasmine to mark Anzac Day, revealing it was where his relative once served.

He wrote: “The most moving of places. Villers-Bretonneux France. My great grandfather served here. This town so far away will never forget our Anzacs. @jasyarby.”

The pair posed together for a photo in front of the battleground, with Karl showing off some stubble as he cuddled up to his beautiful wife.

Fans rushed to share their support for the star and express how much they miss him on morning TV, with one writing: “We miss you in the mornings Karl, breakfast TV will never be the same!”

Another added: “Respect mate… haven’t watched today since you left….” and one wrote: “Miss not seeing you on tv Karl.”

The couple married in a lavish ceremony in Mexico in December last year. While Karl’s three children didn’t attend the wedding, the kids did travel over to Mexico at the same time as the ceremony, but stayed away from the celebrations on the big day.

It was widely rumoured last year that the former Today show host and his son Jackson were estranged following Karl’s public divorce from his ex-wife, and Jackson’s mother, journalist Cassandra Thorburn.

However, Jackson spoke out in March to put the rumours to bed in an interview with Woman’s Day, with the 19-year-old saying: “My mother is the most extraordinary person, and what she has weathered these past few years, no one deserves the backlash.”

He continued: “To watch my parents’ private lives play out so publicly was incredibly destructive for all of us – someone had to step up and protect her, and I knew that person was me.”

Karl officially left the Channel 9 show before his wedding, with Deborah Knight replacing him alongside his former co-host Georgie Gardner.
