Grant Denyer’s wife Chezzi broke down in tears this week as she opened up about her husband’s return to hospital and their daughter’s heartbreaking fears for his future.

Appearing on 2Day FM on Wednesday, the mother-of-two struggled to contain her emotions while explaining Grant’s injury setback, adding that the couple’s eldest daughter Sailor is scared her dad will end up in a wheelchair.

The Dancing with the Stars host was discharged from hospital on Sunday after being confined to a bed for more than a week due to a painful bulging disc sustained during a backyard accident.

Denyer had been using a sledgehammer to knock a star picket into the ground in his paddock when the accident occurred, leaving the star in immense pain and struggling to walk or even stand.

After being bedridden for days, the presenter was eager to get back to his hosting duties and, after getting local anaesthetic and an epidural, he was finally allowed to leave hospital on Sunday. However, things took a turn for the worse the following day when the incredible pain returned and Grant was rushed back to hospital.

“After we spoke to you guys (on Monday morning) he got up and walked around and he was pale, he looked really unwell and he was very uncomfortable and the doctor said, ‘you better go back to hospital,’” Chezzi told hosts on 2Day FM.

While Chezzi explained she is feeling exhausted, she admitted on Wednesday that it is their kids who are struggling the most. Fighting back tears during the chat, she claimed three-year-old Sailor had begged for her dad to come home.

“Sailor said the other day, and it broke my heart, I’ll probably cry,” Chezzi added. “But she said – because she’s been having nightmares – ‘I just want daddy to come home, I don’t want him to work anymore because I’m really worried he is going to end up in a wheelchair’.”

Chezzi also took to social media earlier in the week to update followers on Grant’s condition, sharing a photo of Sailor face-timing her dad after he was readmitted to hospital.

The loving mum said her daughter was missing Grant “so much” and that she, and younger sister Scout, couldn’t wait to have him home for good in a few days time.

“While tonight I feel a bit exhausted, and a tad emotional being reunited with my girls… I just want to send out massive telepathic hugs to everyone who has someone in hospital tonight,” she wrote alongside a photo of little Sailor chatting to her dad.

“A big shoutout to everyone missing a parent or loved one tonight. I think sometimes we forget that life isn’t always easy… And that’s ok. And for my little family, we will count down the days until we can all head back to Sydney to hang out with daddy!”
