Sunrise reporter Sam Armytage delighted Aussies last month when she announced her engagement to partner Richard Lavender and ever since then fans have been on the edge of their seats waiting for more details on when they’ll exchange vows. But, if her colleague Edwina Bartholomew is right, there won’t be too much sharing of information about their special day, with the couple likely to hold a more private event.

Speaking to The Daily Telegraph this week, new mum Edwina expressed her delight for her friend’s good news, but admitted the wedding will be fairly low-key and Sam won’t want any extra attention on her special day. However, she did hint that the wedding could take place sooner rather than later, saying, “it’s going to be a wonderful few months”.

“I’m so excited for her,” she said. “Rich is such a wonderful man. They are so alike in so many ways. Over the last year and a bit to see how happy he’s made her. I’m sure all the viewers at home can see it too. We are very happy and excited for Sam and Rich. It’s going to be a wonderful few months!”

She added: “[Sam] lives a lot of her life in the spotlight and I know she wants a really private, peaceful event and I really hope she gets that.”

It’s been just a couple of weeks since Sam shared the exciting news of her engagement with the rest of the world, taking to Instagram with a sweet post about her future husband and their plans to get married.

The journalist captioned the post, ‘What a year …”, as she uploaded two photos of herself showing off a dazzling diamond ring. Sam’s delight was clear to see as she smiled widely at the camera with her hand placed on Richard’s chest.

Many people, including some famous faces, congratulated the couple on their happy news. Sam’s co-star David ‘Kochie’ Koch wrote: “Wow that’s such wonderful news. Congratulations to you and Rich from Libby and I.”

Sunrise weatherman Sam Mac said: “Sam!!! Richard!!! Well bloody done. So great to see some happy news! @banjoarmytage for ring bearer duties, calling it early.”

While reporter Edwina Bartholomew commented: “Well, this is hands down the best thing to happen this year.”

Days later viewers got a closer look at her stunning engagement ring, as she appeared on Sunrise. The breakfast TV star flashed her beautiful ring to the camera as her co-stars congratulated her on the happy news, before revealing when and where the proposal took place.

Despite the couple only sharing the news two days prior, Sam admitted that Richard – a horse breeder and farmer – actually popped the big question in a “private and lovely” way on his property in the New South Wales Southern Highlands a “few weeks ago”.

“We’d been picking weeds in the paddock and he said ‘darling, do you want to marry me?” the bride-to-be said. “It was very sweet, and he’s a very good man.” She added: “He’s just a very, charming, lovely fellow. He is totally the opposite of the showbiz world and TV.”
