Anyone who has experienced the joy of becoming a grandparent will remember all too well the feeling of sheer excitement when their son or daughter told them the happy news. And Hollywood actress Candice Bergen experienced precisely that recently as her daughter revealed she was pregnant with her first child.

The Murphy Brown star told People magazine that her daughter Chloe Malle, who is the contributing editor of Vogue, and husband Graham Albert are expecting their first child together, with the baby due in May.

“We’re just over-the-moon excited,” the 73-year-old told the outlet. “I can’t wait.”

The Book Club star added: “I know better than to have suggested it to her, so I’ve never asked her, ‘Are you going to have a baby?’ I’ve been very discreet, but I’m just thrilled for her.”

While she began her career as a model, Candice is best known for her on-screen roles which includes her long-running stint as reporter Murphy Brown, and appearances in Hollywood movies such as Carnal Knowledge, Miss Congeniality, and most recently The Book Club alongside Jane Fonda, Diane Keaton and Mary Steenburgen.

However she recently set up a small side hustle, which sees the actress putting her lesser-known artistic talents to good use.

Candice started business Bergen Bags after her daughter asked her to decorate one of her Louis Vuitton tote bags. The actress obliged and painted a sweet selection of white bunnies on to the designer handbag, along with Chloe’s initials.

Chloe – whose father is the late French film director Louis Malle – then shared a photograph of her mother’s handiwork on social media and soon her friends were inundating the star with requests for their own handbags or items of clothing.

Candice has also created designs for A-list customers including Dame Julie Andrews and Barbra Streisand, who both requested portraits of their pet pooches.
