While some people have known for years what the ridges on the bottom of salt and pepper shakers are really for, some are only just discovering the true meaning.

A Twitter user known as Creepy Kellie has sent the internet into meltdown after sharing a genius way of getting salt and pepper out of stubborn shakers.

In a video, which has now been viewed more than 18,000 times, the woman starts by shaking the pepper over an empty plate showing the finely grated grains weren’t coming out. After using the pepper shaker the normal way, she then proceeds to use the ridge of her salt shaker on the bottom of the pepper shaker to get a lot more out of it.

Captioning the short video, the user wrote: “My mom [sic] is losing her s**t cause I showed her how to get pepper out without taking the lid off. Someone showed me this at work.”

Twitter users were quick to comment revealing their shock at the little-known trick, with one writing: “What is this sorcery!”

Another added: “Mind blown. I’m 40 and had no clue.”

While a third wrote: I don’t even like pepper, but still gotta [sic] try this… mind blown.”

It’s not the only life hack to send people while in recent times, with another little-known trick showing people how to save hours when peeling potatoes.

YouTube user Foody Tube’s nifty potato hack video claims you can skip the peeling process before boiling the potatoes and, instead, peel the skin straight off the potatoes once they’re fully cooked.

And here’s how to do it! Score the potato down the middle, creating a ring around the potato (make sure you don’t cut any deeper than the skin). Transfer the potatoes to a giant pot of cold water, boil the potatoes until they are fork tender, then drain them. Once they’re cool enough to touch, peel off the skin — it’s that easy!

If you’d like to warm your potatoes up again, simply place them back into the pan full of hot water. This tip not only prevents the need to use a peeler but it also speeds up the cooking time a lot!
