It’s safe to say ironing is one of many household chores most people dread. Luckily, we’re all about simplifying our lives here at Starts at 60. So rather than looking unkempt and crumpled, we’ve complied a list of five hassle-free ways to remove creases without breaking out the ironing board – it’ll cut your ironing time in half!

Use a damp towel

There’s nothing more embarrassing than arriving at an event in a wrinkled shirt or dress. Luckily, a damp towel is a quick and easy fix! On a flat surface, place a damp towel over the wrinkles and press down to smooth out any deep creases, then hang to air dry, it’s that easy! Of course, if you’re already out and don’t have a cloth towel on-hand, paper towels and a hand dryer work just as well!

Steam clothes in the shower

If you’re heading overseas and don’t want to worry about ironing, this trick is very useful. It might sound strange, but while you shower, simply hang the clothing you’re about to wear in the bathroom. The hot steam from the shower will remove any stubborn wrinkles! After your shower, let the garment hang in another room for a few minutes to dry out.

Use a hairdryer

If you still need to get out a few extra wrinkles after that shower, now is time to put the hairdryer to good use. Did you know you can actually blow dry creases out of your clothes? Simply lay the garment on a flat surface and run the dryer over the wrinkles and watch them disappear. Just make sure the hair dryer doesn’t make contact with your clothing, as it could burn the fabric. A hair straighter can also be used to de-wrinkle stubborn creases (aka, your shirt collar).

Spray the creases away

Yes, you read that right, you can literally spray the creases away – and all you’ll need is some liquid fabric softener and water. Use one teaspoon of the softener to one cup of water and mix them together in a spray bottle. Spray the mixture on the clothing, press down to smooth out any deep creases, then hang the clothing item until it drys.

Throw it in the dryer with ice

Another brilliant way to remove creases without an iron is by tossing a couple of ice cubes into the dryer with your wrinkled clothes. It sounds strange, but it actually works. How? As you run the dryer, the ice will melt and turn into steam, which will smooth out any creases from your garments – it’s that easy! You can also you a damp piece of clothing, like a sock, instead of ice.
