She has only rarely been seen at public events in recent years as she enjoys a quieter life out of the limelight following an incredible career on screen, but Italian screen siren Sophia Loren can still completely steal the show.

The 84-year-old Italian actress looked stunning as she hosted a star-studded party and screening of Mary Poppins Returns in Beverly Hills this week.

Wearing a loose blue jacket and matching pants, Sophia appeared effortlessly elegant as she wore a pretty patterned scarf around her neck and kept her hair perfectly styled in thick curls.

The actress added statement diamond earrings and a colourful glittery bag over her shoulder, while swapping between donning some stylish glasses inside.

Flashing a huge smile, Sophia looked in her element as she posed with a series of directors and big film names inside, before sitting down next to friend and Mary Poppins Returns’ director Rob Marshall, 58. The pair had previously worked together on the movie musical Nine back in 2009.

She was also joined at the event by her son Eduardo Ponti, 46, who she shared with her late husband Carlo Ponti, who sadly died in 2007 at the age of 94.

Meanwhile, veteran actor Jon Voight, 80, also joined the all-star line-up.

Sophia began her acting career in the ’50s at age 16, however her talents as an actress were not truly recognised until her performance as Cesira in Two Women, which earned her the Academy Award for Best Actress in 1962 and made her the first actress to win an Oscar for a foreign-language performance.

She has a successful film career behind her as she starred in classics like Yesterday, Today and Tomorrow (1963), Marriage Italian Style (1964), Sunflower (1970), The Voyage (1974) and A Special Day (1977). In later years, she has appeared in American films such as Grumpier Old Men (1995) and Nine (2009).

In 2016, the Italian actress spoke to W Magazine about her age-defying looks, saying: “I look very well. I look fantastic. I’m laughing, but everybody says so. Everybody says so! Sometimes I don’t believe them anymore, but they are very convincing.”

Despite being a screen siren since the early ’50s, Sophia said she is still happy to hear compliments, though refuses to accept being told she is ‘perfect’.

“[Beauty is] not even perfection. It’s something that comes from inside. I felt quite unique. I was not beautiful in the sense, like, [a] doll. I’ve never been like [that],” she said.

Do you like Sophia’s outfit? Do you remember watching her in some of her movies?
