Pucker up! Patti and Bert Newton put on loved-up display on the red carpet

They are one of Australia’s most iconic couples after more than six decades in the spotlight, and it seems that the love between Patti and Bert Newton has only grown stronger over the decades as they put on a loved up display on the red carpet this week.

Bert and Patti, who tied the knot in 1974, stepped out in Melbourne on Thursday evening to attend the official opening night of ‘Chicago The Musical’ starring Jason Donovan, Casey Donovan and Natalie Bassingthwaighte.

The couple, who share children Lauren and Matthew, were joined by their daughter and granddaughter Eva for the event, appeared to be in high spirits on the red carpet as they playfully posed and pretended to kiss for the cameras.

Bert, 81, looked dapper for his first outing in a while, with the Aussie entertainer wearing a smart black shirt and checked blue jacket with a contrasting red polka dot pocket square.

Meanwhile Patti, 74, looked stunning in an all-black ensemble as she paired a pair of skinny black trousers with a simple camisole beneath a velvet duster jacket which featured brightly coloured floral embroidery on both shoulders and gold stitching on both sleeves.

The singer and broadcaster completed her dazzling outfit with some statement silver jewellery and a comfortable pair of metallic flat shoes.

Lauren Newton, 40, who is married to former Olympic swimmer Matt Welsh, coordinated with her mother in a black outfit which featured vibrant coloured embroidery. The mother-of-five wore her blonde locks down and looked remarkably like her mum as she smiled widely for the cameras. While her daughter Eva, nine, looked picture perfect in an orange dress with a frilled skirt and ruffled cap sleeves.

Earlier this year Bert and Patti shared their delight with the public as they became grandparents for the fifth time when Lauren gave birth to baby Perla Dolly in January.

The proud grandmother shared the happy news on social media, writing on Instagram at the time: “Bert and I are so excited to have Perla home at last. Perla means precious and Dolly was my Nanna’s name. Very lucky Poppy and Nana.”

Lauren and her former swimmer husband also share sons Sam, 10, and Monty, two, as well as daughters Eva, nine, and Lola, six. The new mum also shared an image of her adorable brood online back in January, which she captioned: “Then there were 5! Welcome to our beautiful Perla Dolly Newton Welsh. We are all thrilled and she really is a doll.”
