The Duchess of Cambridge cut a stylish figure on Wednesday as she continued her 24-hour tour of the country to launch the ‘5 big questions on the under 5s’ initiative.

Catherine flew solo, without her husband Prince William, for the series of engagements as she carried out duties in the Welsh capital of Cardiff yesterday morning, before hotfooting it to Woking, England, where she visited a prison.

The 38-year-old looked stylish yet understated for the hectic day of royal duties, opting for a simple black roll-neck jumper which she paired with an on-trend leopard print skirt and a pair of towering stiletto-heeled knee-high boots. Catherine completed the look with a simple gold chain necklace and wrapped up against the cold in an elegant camel coat.

Kicking off the jam-packed day, Catherine first visited the Ely and Careau Children’s Centre, in Cardiff, where she joined a baby sensory class to hear about the support that parents and staff receive, according to Kensington Palace.

Later in the day she visited HMP Send where she spent time with a number of former female in-mates, who have since been released and rehabilitated, having previously met them during a visit to the prison in 2015.

A statement on the Kensington Palace Instagram page said: “The Duchess heard about the work that the Forward Trust do at the prison in supporting clients to improve their relationships with friends and family, including reconnecting with children.

“Among those that The Duchess spoke with today was Kirsty, who she first met in 2015. Kirsty spent her childhood in and out of the care system. Following a series of adverse experiences, she turned to substance misuse and began a 10-year cycle of addiction and reoffending.”

The outing comes just one day after Catherine visited Thinktank, a science museum in Birmingham, to launch a national survey about early childhood.

Catherine swapped her usual elegant dresses for something a little smarter for the outing, donning a pair of black pants and pussy bow turquoise printed blouse. With her hair in her trademark loose waves, the mother-of-three was all smiles as young children showed her around the museum.

The five-question online survey aims to give people a platform to share their views on how the next generation will be raised, and comes after eight years of work carried out by the duchess.

“Parents, carers and families are at the heart of caring for children in the formative years, so that is why I want to listen to them,” Catherine said in a statement.

“As a parent I know how much we cherish the future health and happiness of our children. I want to hear the key issues affecting our families and communities so I can focus my work on where it is needed most. My ambition is to provide a lasting change for generations to come.”
