The Duchess of Cornwall kept things traditional as she donned a tartan outfit during a visit to Scotland with husband Prince Charles.

Camilla matched perfectly with the Duke of Rothesay, as he is known in Scotland, in the knee-length, plaid patterned dress which she paired with long black boots and a grey jacket.

Meanwhile, Charles, who has been spotted previously in tartan, sported a kilt, complete with long khaki socks.

The pair fitted in perfectly for the trip to the small village of Braemar where they visited The Fife Arms to mark the inn’s reopening.

Here they unveiled a special plaque which was added to the impressive collection of historic objects and works of art at the property.

The royal couple also enjoyed a tour of the restored inn, which has been an integral part of the town since 1856 and is home to the annual Highland Games.

“The new inn brings together Scottish heritage, craftsmanship and culture and one of the rooms is decorated with artwork by Gideon Summerfield, a graduate of the Royal Drawing School,” Clarence House wrote on its Instagram.

Camilla and Charles’ visit to Scotland marks one of their first outings of the year. The last time the Duchess of Cornwall was spotted without the rest of the royal family  was when she opened the Wiltshire Air Ambulance’s new airbase in mid December.

The 71-year-old  doesn’t often speak openly about her family while on royal engagements, but she made an exception to share a passionate message to brave air ambulance personnel during the outing.

The Duchess of Cornwall surprised a crowd when she revealed one of her grandchildren had been rescued and airlifted to hospital some time ago in a shock hospital dash.

While she didn’t name which grandchild she was referring to, the Daily Mirror reports it was likely her granddaughter Eliza, as the duchess later mentioned how her daughter Laura Lopes, (Eliza’s mother), joined the child in the helicopter.

“I just really wanted to say a huge thank you to everybody who has been involved with this wonderful project,” she said in her speech, the news outlet reports.

“I know what fantastic work the air ambulance does… I’ve seen it and I have known friends that have literally been saved by it.

“Even in Yorkshire my granddaughter was taken off in the Yorkshire one, one year, and luckily she was sorted and alright, but it gave my daughter such confidence to be aboard it.”
