A furious woman has launched a legal fight against her ex-Romanian toy boy lover after she loaned him £500,000 (AU$888,000) to turn his life around – but he now claims he’s blown it all.
According to The Sun, Christiane Shellard, 66, handed over the cash to 29-year-old Romanian Cristian Mihalea after they enjoyed an 18-month “full, loving and intimate relationship”.
The mum-of-one claimed it was a loan for him to buy a flat in her name to live in while he saved for his own place, but he reportedly insisted it was a gift – and claimed he’s now spent it all on online gambling, a failed gold deal and an Audemars Piguet watch.
Shellard is suing him in London’s High Court and claimed she loaned him around £750,000 in total throughout their relationship, including more watches, a Porsche Panamera and £160,000 she believed was for his father’s medical bills.
She met Mihalea three years after divorcing the boss of a financial markets head-hunting firm in 2013. At the time, Mihalea was reportedly working as a van driver.
According to the news outlet, Shellard’s barrister Ross Fentem claimed in court that Mihalea was supposed to buy a flat in West London with the disputed £500,000, but instead “salted away” the cash in bank accounts in his homeland, as well as buying his sister a £42,000 GLS Mercedes.
His assets have been frozen while the investigation continues.
Judge Nicholas Cooke reportedly told him: “You’re not going to get away from the juggernaut that’s approaching by saying, ‘It’s too late, I have spent all the money’.”
Mihalea has claimed his only assets now are £7,444 in a UK bank account and a £4,000 Cartier watch, which it’s alleged was also gifted to him by Shellard.
Mihalea previously appeared in The Sun newspaper in 2014 where he boasted he was a successful businessman who had spent £37,000 on £250-a-time prostitutes. He said at the time: “I’m young, I’m good-looking and successful — so why shouldn’t I be allowed to enjoy my freedom?”
He now runs a hair and beauty salon in London, which he reportedly bought recently under his sister’s name.
