This slice is so tasty and addictive!

This decadent dark chocolate and cherry slice will no doubt be a hit with everyone who tries it. It might be a super dense slice but the chunky bites of chocolate chips and full cherries definitely help break it up.

If you have been searching for a tasty, sweet slice with an original flavour that hasn’t been overused with family and friends, then whip this one up! It’s ready for the oven in just ten minutes and will easily serve a hungry crowd. While it definitely tastes the best straight out of the oven, you can always pop it in the freezer to save for a later date!

  • 200g dark chocolate, chopped
  • 150g unsalted butter, chopped
  • 3 eggs, lightly beaten
  • 1 cup(220g) firmly packed brown sugar
  • 1 cup(150g) plain flour, sifted
  • 1 cup(90g) desiccated coconut
  • 2/3 cup(130g) dark chocolate chips, plus extra to serve
  • 415g can pitted cherries in syrup, drained

  1. Preheat oven to 180C. Grease a 30cm x 20cm slice pan. Line with baking paper. In a saucepan on low heat, add chopped chocolate and butter. Heat mixture and stir constantly for about 3-4 minutes. Make sure mixture is combined and smooth. Remove from heat. Leave to cool for 10 minutes.
  2. When completely cooled, add eggs. Whisk to combine. Add brown sugar, plain flower and desiccated coconut. Stir together. Add chocolate chips and fold into mixture.
  3. Spoon mixture into prepared slice pan. Pour cherries into mixture. Press cherries into batter. Sprinkle remaining chocolate chips over top of mixture. Bake for 30-35 minutes. Insert and remove clean skewer to check if cooked. Cool in pan for 10 minutes. Turn out onto wire rack. Leave to cool completely. Cut into pieces and serve.
