Quick and easy apple cake

This delicious afternoon tea snack is perfect for the grandkids to enjoy!

This super speedy cake is ideal for whipping up right before afternoon tea so you can enjoy it fresh from the oven to go alongside your cup of tea or coffee. With a recipe as easy as this, it’s also a great dessert treat to make with the grandkids as it’s almost impossible to mess it up. You can use fresh or tinned apples depending on how much time you have to spare, but regardless of which you choose, you can still enjoy the same deliciously sweet flavour. Serve it up with a dollop of cream or a scoop of ice cream and enjoy one of the best afternoon tea treat!


  • 150g butter melted
  • 2 cups apple stewed
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 2 eggs
  • 2 cups self-raising flour
  • 2 tsp baking powder
  • 2 tsp ground cinnamon
  • 1/2 cup mixed nuts chopped


  1. Preheat oven to 140C. Grease a springform cake tin. Add butter, apples, sugar, eggs, flour, baking powder and cinnamon to a large bowl. Stir well to combine.
  2. Add nuts to batter. Stir well to combine. Spoon mixture into prepared tin. Smoothen top with back of spoon.
  3. Bake for 40-45 minutes or until a skewer inserted in the centre comes out clean. Leave to cool in pan for 10 minutes. Turn out onto wire rack to cool completely. Slice and serve.
