The best five-ingredient slow cooker lemon and herb chicken

There’s just something amazing about the mix of flavours between zesty lemon and perfectly tender chicken, and this tasty dish is definitely no exception to the rule.

The mouth-watering chicken meal is a refreshing dinner option that’s perfect for nights when you’re feeling too exhausted to hang around in the kitchen for too long. And with just five ingredients, you won’t be breaking the budget either!


  • 4 lemons
  • 2-3 heads of garlic
  • 1 whole chicken
  • Fresh rosemary, or any other fresh herbs
  • All-purpose steak seasoning or salt and pepper


  1. Cut garlic heads and lemons in half and lay in bottom of slow cooker. Cut bottoms off lemons so they lay flat. Add sprig of rosemary, or any herbs.
  2. Season chicken well, inside and out, with all-purpose steak seasoning or salt and pepper.
  3. Lay chicken on top of garlic and lemon slices and stuff chicken with a garlic head cut in half, and a lemon cut in quarters.
  4. Cover top of chicken with additional lemon slices and rosemary.
  5. Turn slow cooker to high, and cook for 4 – 6 hours (Test chicken is cooked by inserting a knife or skewer into breast and leg. Juices will run clear when cooked). Once cooked, turn off slow cooker and leave chicken inside to rest for 15 minutes.
  6. Remove from slow cooker, carve and serve. Liquid from slow cooker can be strained and served over chicken.
