While it’s easy to buy cheese twists from the supermarket these days, nothing beats a homemade version. Not only are they incredibly simple to make but they’re also much more cost-effective! With a mixture of cumin, pepper and two different cheeses they’re seriously delicious and go great with a cheese and meat platter. They also make a lovely host’s gift to take over to someone’s house – just wrap them in cellophane and tie string around the top.

  • 1 teaspoon cumin seeds
  • 1/4 teaspoon cracked black pepper
  • 1/2 cup finely grated parmesan cheese
  • 2/3 cup grated vintage cheddar cheese
  • 2 sheets frozen ready-rolled puff pastry, partially thawed
  • 1 egg, lightly beaten

  1. Preheat oven to 220. Line large baking tray with baking paper.
  2. Add cumin seeds, pepper, parmesan and cheddar to a bowl. Stir to combine. Place 1 sheet pastry on prepared tray. Brush with egg. Sprinkle half the cumin mixture over the top. Top with remaining pastry sheet. Press down firmly to secure. Brush pastry with egg. Sprinkle evenly with remaining cumin mixture. Cover. Refrigerate for 10 minutes or until pastry is firm.
  3. Using sharp knife, cut pastry in half. Cut each half into 3cm-wide strips. Twist strips. Place on prepared tray. Bake for 12 minutes or until browned and crisp. Transfer to a wire rack to cool. Serve.
