In the current coronavirus climate, self-isolation can mean leaving behind the long-beloved tradition of going out for a meal or getting takeaway to avoid cooking. So if you’re avoiding leaving the house but still want both the flavour and atmosphere of enjoying takeaway food, why not look into the growing number of food apps that are available to deliver straight to your door?

Many apps have put rules in place in light of the new social distancing laws to ensure people are staying as sanitary and safe as possible without missing out on all the goodness. And as a small silver lining to the economic downturn, apps are also using this time to hand out plenty of discounts and free delivery offers to customers who need it the most.

UberEats

This popular delivery app has made several changes to help customers and restaurants alike amidst the Covid-19 crisis. Right off the bat, customers will notice that the app now offers a ‘leave at the door’ button which ensures delivery is completely contactless for both parties.

However on a larger scale, Uber has recently created a multi-million dollar fund that allows independent restaurants to provide customers with even more discounts to benefit both the business and the consumer. The company also pledged 25,000 delivered meals to hospital workers and frontline services but are still working with local and state governments to implement the plan as soon as possible.

Deliveroo

Food delivery through this app is still very much up and running for customers looking to sink their teeth into something tasty while in self-isolation. And for those customers looking to maintain social distance, contactless delivery and collection is now also an option. To ensure everyone is taking necessary precautions, there is now an option to remain a safe distance apart when dealing with packages that applies to both delivery people who are picking up the food and customers who are coming to the front door.

Meanwhile, the delivery app is currently still offering 1,000 Qantas points for a customer’s first order plus an additional 2,000 points for anyone who orders four or more times in a single month.

Menulog

This app is working towards a contactless delivery, like many others on the market. Menulog also reminded customers that they should feel safe ordering food from restaurants knowing that they continue to take food safety very seriously and will adapt to the situation as it unfolds.

DoorDash

The relatively new app was hugely successful in America but has only just started to make waves in Australia. Although it’s still growing, DoorDash is currently only available in Melbourne and Sydney. Like others, it offers contactless delivery that will be extremely helpful in maintaining the public’s social distancing.
