Every year, the biggest names in Hollywood and the movie industry go head to head for the top awards in film, with some major snubs and surprises along the way.

And while she’s usually a prominent face in the list, Aussie star Nicole Kidman didn’t make the final draw this year as she was beaten by the likes of Glenn Close, Rami Malek, Lady Gaga and Olivia Colman.

Last year saw a huge variety of films released from action and horror to romance and real-life dramas, and the Oscars will point the spotlight on moving and memorable performances from start to finish.

Leading the nominations in the ‘Best Picture’ category are superhero movie Black Panther, Queen hit Bohemian Rhapsody, Queen Anne historical drama The Favourite and Lady Gaga’s hit A Star is Born.

Meanwhile, Lady Gaga herself is up for ‘Best Actress’ alongside The Favourite‘s Olivia Colman, Glenn Close for her role in The Wife, Melissa McCarthy for Can You Ever Forgive Me? and Roma‘s Yalitza Aparicio.

Elsewhere, Rami Malek leads the ‘Best Actor’ nominations for his incredible portrayal of Freddie Mercury in Bohemian Rhapsody, alongside Vice‘s Christian Bale, A Star Is Born‘s Bradley Cooper, At Eternity’s Gate‘s Willem Dafoe, and Green Book‘s Viggo Mortensen.
