She’s one of the best-selling music artists of all time, but now Shania Twain is set for the big screen with a starring role in an upcoming action film.

The Canadian country singer stars opposite Hollywood legend John Travolta in the drama-fuelled flick Trading Paint — which is set to hit cinemas in the US on February 22 (an Australia date is yet to be released) — and the first trailer for the film is already revving up fans.

In the film, Travolta plays a veteran racing driver Sam, who’s drawn back to the track to compete against his son in an increasingly intense and dangerous rivalry. Twain plays Becca, the love interest of the Grease star.

And the ‘Man! I Feel Like A Woman’ singer, who recently released her first album in 15 years, teased fans on Thursday after she uploaded the official trailer for the film. Taking to Instagram, she wrote: “I can’t wait for you all to see this.”

Fans were quick to comment on their excitement, with one writing: “Can’t wait to see this movie.”

Another added: “I only want to see this coz [sic] Shania is in it.”

And a third wrote: “I will watch hours of cars for a tiny bit of Shania .”

Though she’s starred in several music videos, Twain’s only other major film experience was a cameo as herself in the 2004 movie I Heart Huckabees, starring Jude Law, Naomi Watts, Mark Wahlberg, Dustin Hoffman and Lily Tomlin.

Speaking to Sounds Like Nashville, Twain said she was excited to tackle a new challenge: “I learned so much. It’s a whole new chapter of my life I wasn’t expecting because it was really last minute.”

“I wasn’t expecting it at all, so I love the spontaneity of it. That’s why I dove into it because I didn’t have too much time to think about it.”

She continued: “I enjoyed it and I enjoyed getting to know John. He’s a very sweet person. I’ve known him for several years now just on short little chats, but now [working on] this movie, we got to know each other a little bit better.”

The multi-award winning superstar has sold over 100 million records over the course of her career and made the best-selling album by a female artist of all time.

However, it hasn’t all come easy for Twain, who took a break from singing in 2003 after undergoing surgery for Lyme Disease to repair nerve damage. Her vocal chords were badly damaged and she even lost her voice for several years, fearing that she may never sing again.
