Cassandra Thorburn received some harsh comments from judge Craig Revel Horwood after her debut performance on Dancing with the Stars on Monday, but that is nothing compared to the words that spurred her on to take part.
The 47-year-old former journalist told The Daily Telegraph it was her son Jackson, 19, who triggered her into agreeing to take part in the Channel 10 show after he slammed her skills on the dancefloor.
“I went to Jackson, my eldest, and I said, ‘I think I’m going to do DWTS’ and he turned and said ‘No, you’re not — you can’t f***ing dance’,” she told the news outlet. “And right then and there I decided it was time I learnt to dance. so I signed up.
“If Jackson – who did 10 years of ballet – thinks I can’t dance then I’m going to learn to dance.”
The mum-of-three’s first performance on the show was slammed by former Strictly Come Dancing judge Horwood earlier this week as he gave her a measly one out of 10, before telling her: “Well, it was all going well until the skirt was ripped off and you started to dance. Then quite frankly, it was a failure.”
However the author insisted shortly after her dance that it made her feel “beautiful, confident and happy”.

Earlier this week, Karl Stefanovic’s ex-wife shared a heartwarming tribute to her late father Max, crediting him with convincing her to appear on the reality show.
Taking to Instagram, Cassandra wrote an emotional post dedicated to her father, who died in 2018, alongside a photo of him.
