Beatles fans were overwhelmed with excitement at the weekend when the great Paul McCartney invited his former bandmate Ringo Starr to the stage for a surprise performance together.

Thousands of people packed into Dodger Stadium in Los Angeles on Saturday night expecting to see McCartney belting out some of the band’s greatest hits – so when fellow surviving Beatles member Starr was welcomed to the stage, it was an unexpected yet amazing shock.

Standing in front of his adoring fans at the sold out concert, the talented rocker announced: “We’ve got a surprise for us, a surprise for you, a surprise for everyone: Ladies and gentlemen, the one and only, Ringo Starr.”

The crowd erupted into applause as the drummer walked up to his bandmate, with fans cheering and waving their hands in excitement while McCartney embraced his friend in a hug and planted a kiss on his forehead.

“Peace and love everybody,” Starr yelled out to the flurry of people standing below, before making his way to the drum set behind.

“I love you man,” McCartney said to the talented musician, as he prepared to play some hit tunes for his many fans.

To the delight of concert attendees, the two launched straight into The Beatles’ classics ‘Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band’ and ‘Helter Skelter’.

Despite being in their 70s, the musicians put on a spectacular show, rocking out to the tunes with big smiles spread across their faces. The performance has since been shared online with fans claiming they had “extreme goosebumps” listening to the two play together once again.

“I wasn’t even there and I got the extreme goosebumps to this video,” one person wrote on YouTube.

“Wow, Paul and Ringo together! So amazing! This is fantastic footage! I think I would have fainted if I had been there. Just watching your clip made me overwhelmed with excitement and emotion,” another said.

While a third added: “Wow living legends still rocking. Great jam.”

Meanwhile, McCartney also took to social media to reminisce on the special moment shared with his great friend. In one photo shared on Twitter, the singer could be seen giving his fellow musician a kiss on the head with the caption: “Reunited with my favourite Starr.”

While another showed the two playing on stage, both with huge smiles on their faces as they enjoyed the special moment together.

“The joy of playing with my Peace and Love brother,” McCartney wrote alongside the snap.

“We were there!! Fab show #Paul McCartney – thank you so so much!” one fan commented. “Thanks too to Ringo for coming out to play! Explosive reaction from the whole crowd.”
