Julia Louis-Dreyfus surprised fans right across the world with her positive and inspirational attitude as she announced she had been diagnosed with breast cancer last year.

Now, having kept her fans up to date throughout her treatment, the 57-year-old comedian and star has made a triumphant return to work almost a year on – and looks happier and healthier than ever.

The former Seinfeld star was diagnosed with breast cancer in September last year. Breaking the news to fans on Twitter, she wrote at the time: “1 in 8 women get breast cancer. Today, I’m the one… The good news is that I have the most glorious group of supportive and caring family and friends, and fantastic insurance through my union. The bad news is that not all women are so lucky, so let’s fight all cancers and make universal health care a reality.”

Now she has returned to work on HBO’s hit series VEEP. Celebrating her success, she shared a funny selfie with her co-stars round a huge table, looking glowing as she beamed up to the camera.

While she had minimal make-up on, she wore glasses and flashed a wide grin in front of everyone from Tony Hale and Matt Walsh, to Anna Chlumsky, Gary Cole and more cast members.

Just a few days earlier Julia shared another natural shot, far from her usual glamour, wearing just a towel and writing: “Backlit in a towel, off kilter. #sunday #photography.”

She’s regularly kept fans up to date with her recovery, and confirmed in February that she had undergone surgery for her breast cancer, writing at the time: “Hoorah! Great doctors, great results, feeling happy and ready to rock after surgery. Hey cancer, ‘F*** you!’ Here’s my first post op photo.”

Meanwhile, her Veep co-star Tony Hale told ET in May: “She’s doing awesome. She’s getting stronger and stronger and we’ll probably start shooting in August at the end of the summer.”

Just months before that, the star posted a photo of herself getting a blood transfusion. “Getting ready for the holidays with my awesome Xmas cocktail,” she joked.

She even dressed up as a gangster when completing her second round of chemotherapy, this time using colourful language to explain that the disease wouldn’t beat her. “Chemo #2: finite. We are NOT f****** around here,” she said, before quoting some inspirational fighting songs.
