An architect, an artist and an engineer were discussing whether they preferred spending time with their wives or their mistresses.

The architect was the first to answer.

He explained that he enjoyed spending time with his wife because it allowed him to build a solid foundation for an enduring relationship.

The artist was next to explain his choice. He said he preferred time with his mistress because he loved the passion and mystery he found there.

The artist and architect were surprised when the engineer finally gave his answer.

“I like both,” he said. “If you have a wife and a mistress, they will each assume you are spending time with the other woman and you can go to the pub for some peace and quiet.”
