He may have bid farewell to politics after being ousted from the top job in 2019, but former Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull is making sure he won’t be forgotten any time soon as he’s set to spill the beans on life in parliament in a new book.

Perhaps not to the delight of his former colleagues, the 64-year-old has penned a full memoir on his political career from extracts of a detailed diary kept over many years. The book will be titled Malcolm Turnbull: An Autobiography.

Set for release later this year, Turnbull is said to delve into everything from his childhood to his eventful career, providing readers with an “exceptionally candid and compelling account” of his life.

“The book will be an in-depth and definitive narrative of Turnbull’s prime ministership and his time in politics,” publisher Hardie Grant Books said in a statement.

“It will also describe his early life and successful career across law, investment and banking, including the high profile characters and controversies he encountered in more than two decades of business.”

Throughout the book, Turnbull details his challenges and triumphs while in the top job including defending “Spycatcher” Peter Wright against the UK Government and defending Kerry Packer against the Costigan Commission.

It won’t stop there with the father-of-two delving into his experience dealing with media mogul Rupert Murdoch and his encounter with US President Donald Trump, who famously called him “Trunbull”, and other dominant global leaders during his time in office.

Though his end to politics was perhaps not as he anticipated, Turnbull claimed he has enjoyed putting pen to paper and reflecting on his highly publicised life over the past months.

“The only thing that is more fun that writing an adventure story is living it,” he said in a statement. “I love stories, and love telling them. And this time I am telling my own – an Australian adventure.”

Meanwhile publisher Arwen Summers, who is working to have the book ready for publication late this year, praised Turnbull for his detailed account of life, claiming it is both entertaining and sophisticated.

“Malcom’s writing is immediate and intelligent, infused with a wry humour and illuminated by extracts from a diary he kept throughout his political career,” Summers said. “From page one the book is entertaining, sophisticated and provocative, and we see Malcolm as we have never seen him before.”
