Most of us will pack all of the usual contenders when we go on holidays: passport, scarf, camera, comfortable walking shoes. But there are a few other items that often get overlooked in the last-minute packing rush. Make sure you aren’t caught out on your travels with these essential items to make your holiday stress free and relaxed!
Universal Adapter
While you could by an adaptor for every country you visit, a universal one with save you a whole lot of time and money in the long run. It pays to buy a good quality one so you’re not caught with it breaking or not sitting in the wall socket correctly. A lot of the new adaptors also have USB ports so you can charge your other devices at the same time. They set you back about $25, but it’s definitely worth it for the convenience.
Hand Sanitiser and Wet Wipes
No matter where you’re travelling too, it’s easy to pick up germs while you’re away. Tourist hot spots can be a breeding ground for germ while exotic locations can be home to lots of nasty things you’re body isn’t used to. Carry a small tube of sanitiser everywhere you go and rub it on your hands before you eat and after you’ve touched any surfaces. Wet wipes can be used to clean your hands after a meal and to wipe the dirt of your face at the end of the day.
Mini First Aid Kit
It may sound like overkill to some but a mini first aid kit can come in handy at the most unexpected times. Travellers are often on their feet all day making them more prone to blisters and sore feet. Having bandaids on hand when you need them will save you the trouble of having to hunt down a chemist on the run. Pack a deep heat cream or something similar too so you can give your feet and legs a good rub down when you get back to your room.
Plastic Bags
Take a few plastic bags to store dirty laundry or knick knacks you pick up along the way.
Copies of Your Passport and Itinerary
It pays to have a photocopy of your passport and itinerary in case they are lost or stolen along the way. It’s also a good idea to make copies of any other important informations, such as your travel insurance or credit cards. Leave copies with someone you trust at home so you’ve always got a back up no matter what happens.
Local Currency
As surprising as it may sound, many people leave home without any of the local currency for the destination they are travelling to. Since the exchange rates are usually similar here and there have been reports of travellers getting duped by exchange officers overseas, it pays to plan ahead and convert a few hundred dollars before you leave, even if it’s just enough to get you started.
Spare padlock
Security is a huge concern for many overseas travellers and while some bags come fitted with built-in locks, it’s a good idea to pack a small spare padlock just in case yours breaks. They are cheap to pick up and will save you a whole lot of worrying if something does break along the way.
